WELL DRILLED NUNEATON COLTS TOO GOOD FOR KENS
This was a hard day at the office for Kenilworth Colts against what is probably going to be one of their most difficult opposition. Although there were moments when Kenilworth rattled Nuneaton it was mostly one way traffic. Lost 36-7.
Zak Templeton Conversion
Right from the off, Kenilworth were up against it. Nuneaton were a big side all round and regularly turned Kens over at the breakdown. Quite often illegally and conceded 7 penalties in the first 20 mins.
After 21 mins of defending Nuneaton charged down a clearance kick, quickly recycled the ball and went over in the corner 5 nil. They also kicked a difficult conversion 7 Nil.
The game continued in much the same vane and then Kenilworth conceded a penalty beyond the 22 in front of the posts, which Nuns opted to kick. This surprisingly was missed.
A period of better play by Kenilworth resulted in a great move by Kens backs and setting Sam Bailey off down the wing, a great off load to Joe Owen and he was taken into touch the hard way and could not continue.
Nuneaton then discovered what was to be Kenilworth undoing and kicked a penalty to the corner, the first rolling maul was brought down, then another penalty to the corner. The rolling maul was un-stoppable over for 5 points the kick missed. 12 Nil. 35 mins.
Towards the end of the 1st half Kenilworth started to get some more ball due mostly to better defence of the breakdown. However, the scrum continued to be a problem. One of these turnovers resulted in a break to the line and in at the corner, not kicked 17 Nil.
Finally from the kick off Kens put Nuneaton under some pressure. A great move down the wing resulting in almost a try, but the ball was dropped on crossing the line. However, in a great bit of individual brilliance 2 mins later a Nuneaton clearance kick was charged down and Harvey Joy dabbed the ball down to score on the edge of half time 17-5. Zak converted 17-7.
At half time changes to the scrum improved matters and Kens were able to retain scrum possession and once take one against the head.
One of the early Nuns attacks was repulsed in front of the post and great play by Kens at the break down resulted in a knock on to Kenilworth. Rock steady scrum and pass back for clearance – oh NO its hit the post and bounced back behind the lines. Nuns score a fluke try. Plus a conversion 24-7.
Play then goes mostly Kens way with 2/3 attacks repulsed by great Nuns defence until 65 mins when a penalty results in another rolling maul confrontation that Kens lose. 31-7
Both team now begin to tire and the remaining subs come on for both team. Kenilworth make another great break down the touch but its well covered by Nuns. Kenilworth press forward but in the dying seconds the ball is lost in contact and Nuneaton break down the wing to score in the comer, no conversion final score 36-7.
