Sutton Coldfield 22 Kenilworth Cavaliers 32. Cavalier; "adjective; Carefree and nonchalant; jaunty".
Les Cavaliers lived up to their dictionary definition today with a feast of flowing rugby that gave them a 32-22 win against a strong Sutton side.
On a day suited for fine running rugby Les Cavs squandered some early possession by some aimless kicking, much to the chagrin of the massed Kenilworth supporters & Glynski. It was the rugby equivalant of flat mild. But once they kept the ball in hand the rugby champagne flowed and they scored some outstanding tries. Scrummaging as we all know wins games and the heavy cavalry of Llewellyn, Hunter and Lowthian were outstanding providing a fine platform for the girls. Tom Nicholson is a splendid captain & it would seem, 'he are dead clever ...cos he are a doctor'. Rob Maisey shows pace in the back row and Jai P adds guile and skill. Shame about his kicking! A welcome return to Russ Clarke at 10, who no doubt willl now have another 51 weeks off. The first try came from Dom Sheehan after some fine work by the backs. Rhys Jones then scored the first of 2 tries after some more good runs by Jenks and Adam Hadwin. Try of the match came from Jai Purewal who scraped the ball off his toes to dive over ,to atone for an earlier transgression. Andy Whitehall made a great return from cricket and added another fine try. With the match finely balanced and kenilworth reduced to 13 men (where did the all subs go ??) Sutton fluffed a clearance from their own line which dropped into the arms of Rhys Jones. He drove over from what by the end of evening was 50 metres but was probably nearer to 22!! Kicks were added by Russ Clarke. Sam Flowers added bulk and malice, Ian Bowden was lively as ever, Prinny saw little of the ball but set up Whitehall`s try well. A hugely enjoyable win in which the Cavs lived up to their (recently acquired) legend for quality rugby. A great side.
