The Cavaliers started the day with 15 players and some late cancellations left just 13, Ed Rogers and David True were recruited from the 3rd team and we headed to Old Laurentains expecting a very tough afternoon.
From the kick off OLs scored very quickly, against the run of play. A quick chat under the posts and the Cavs regrouped and from the restart dominated the game, up front the Cavs pack sent OLs backwards at every scrum and with impressive running from the backs it was not long before the Cavs scored. The first half continued in much the same way with OLs still in the habit of giving away penalties. Injury to Dan Cooper in the second row and no bench on hand dropped Kenilworth down to 14 players, Matt Jenkins joined the pack from the wing, what was he doing out there anyway!
The first half finished 17 - 10 to Kenilworth,
OLs started stronger in the second half and brought on some fresh legs and quickly brought the score to 17 - 15, then after an unfortunate Cavs sin binning an OLs forwards drive from a line out took the lead at 20 - 17. Fighting back the Cavs fought hard, camping on the OLs line with constant forward drives, shipping the ball out to the backs with strong running led to a try from Joe Jepps, the conversion from Adam Hadwin gave Kenilworth the lead at 24 - 20 then it was just down to solid Cavs defence to see the game out and claim the win.
Every player in the Kenilworth side deserves a mention for this impressive win!
