Looking resplendent in their new kit, the Cavaliers capped a great week by beating local rivals, Earlsdon 2nds 24 points to 5 on a bright and crisp early autumn afternoon in Coventry.
Determined to bounce back following a run of defeats, the Cavs squad more than stepped up to the plate this week. More than 10 of the Cavs attended training on Thursday night which not only allowed the Cavs to get some much needed structure into our game but also game the 1st team boost in advance of their top of the table clash against Old Laurent’s (Ken victorious 34- 31).
The Cavs ‘squad rotation’ sees no sign of abating as we fielded yet another new look team but one that benefitted from the inclusion of a number of the senior Colts. Indeed it was Ballinger playing at scrum half who provided the early impetus and fizzing the ball about like the fireworks at the castle later that night. It was from one such play that Fox and D. Brown linked up nicely with Fox going over for the first of his brace of tries in the game.
The home side regrouped and for large periods of the first half were the dominant side, particularly in the scrum and tight. The introduction of Bladon and Brown shored things up in the front row after some dogged work from Llewellyn and Smalley. Now the Cavs pack was starting to get the upper hand and a ball against the head from Colts hooker Gibson led to Fox going over the his second and the Cavs last try of the first half.
The second half was much brighter from a Cavs perspective. Tries from Clifford, J. Ballinger and 2 conversions from Prince saw the Cavs move out of sight of our by now, somewhat beleaguered hosts. Final score Earlsdon 2nds 5 vs Ken Cavs 24.
Well done to all those who came along to support the Cavs. Thank you very much it is greatly appreciated. Similarly congratulations to those Cavs who survived the pub golf- the first official Cavs social of the season. We may need to wait a while for the next to allow people’s heads to recover and earn enough brownie points to be allowed out again!
