Rugby St Andrews 2nds 27 vs Kenilworth 2nds 19
The first game back after the festive break was always going to be a case of blowing away the cobwebs and running off that last pint or turkey sandwich. Sadly for Kenilworth it was the hosts who presented themselves the better on the day to steal another close fought win 27- 19.
Having ealier pipped our hosts at home, we were keen to do the double on what we knew would be more than capable opposition. On paper we should have had more than enough to achieve our objective however this was not to be the case.
Notable performances came from Howles and Jenkins but beyond that unfortunaltey we were almost to a man a couple of yards slower to react than our opposition. Missed tackles in defence and not enough work off the ball in attack eventually put pay to our ambitions leaving the uncomfortable tast of, 'we only had ourselves to blame' in our mouths.
Desipte this critical self appraisal, the good news is that the club fielded 3 senior teams and a Colts team which would not have been possible last season. We now dust ourselves off, push to get as many training as possible and look forward to next week's opportunity to put things right.
Kenilworth 2nds: Graur (try), Wylie, Andrews, Lothian, Jenkins, Lane (try), Eggington, Phillips, Andrews, Bowden (2x cons), Povey (try), Howells, Purewal, Johnson, Clifford, Eggington.
