With K’s fielding one of their best sides of the season, the boy’s were distinctly relaxed in the warm up and this continued into the first 20 mins as a very solid and spirited opposition went in to an early 12-0 lead.

A deft chip through from a quick turnover caught K’s out first and 5 minutes later their centre waltzed through some weak defense in the backs. Some spirited words from Purewal  after this score seemed to wake the K’s up and working against a strong wind they worked their way back up field with some strong runs from Luke Brown.

When K’s managed to get some quick ball they made good ground and in the final 5 minutes of the half were knocking on the opposition line, eventually the pressure told with Andy Fox slotting over a penalty.

The 2nd half started well for K’s with the wind at their backs and a charge down by Matt Jenkins led to a try by the lively Ollie Burnham. A few minutes later from a scrum a great set move by the K’s led to a rampaging run by the evergreen Dom Carrick who even managed ‘Matt Dawson esc’ show and go to the chasing St. Andrews players and made a good 50 meters to set a good field position.

K’s kept the pressure on and from a lineout on the 22 the forwards took a catch and drive all the way to the St. Andrews line with Carrick crashing over for a great 8 man score to take the lead making it 13-12. From the re-start Matt Jenkins took the kick well, playing his best game of the season, and K’s worked their way back up field with some good running from Noon and Brown and astute kicking from Purewal at 10.

With St. Andrews struggling against the wind Jonny Openshaw took the lineout against the throw and with the opposition at sea, he charged through the hole in the lineout on the 22 then crashed over the winger in the corner to score making it 18-12.

The final 20 mins were pretty dis-jointed for both teams but St. Andrews managed a score with 10 mins to go and it was all hands to the pump from then on to hold off the opposition but the boy’s dug in deep hold out and get a deserved win.

Tries - Ollie Burnham, Dom Carrick, Jonny Openshaw
Penalty - Andy Fox
