A determined and spirited band of 22 men made the short journey down the Kenilworth Road to Moorefields to take on local rivals Leamington. Kenilworth quickly threw down their marker with some sustained forward pressure, which was matched by a set of quick (although not all young!) backs who looked to run the ball at nearly every opportunity to take the game to the opposition. James Nichol (Man of the Match) had his usual solid game at 9, looking to hassle and ask questions of their defence at every breakdown, and Mark Turner at 10 gained territory with some well-though tactical kicking.
The continuous and sheer amount of work that the forwards got through over the first 40 mins (and indeed the whole 80!), with Andy Honess and new recruit Rob Thomson worthy of special mention, allowed us to bag 4 tries in the first half, with James Nichol and Mark Turner bagging 2 apiece, to which Mark added one conversion.
Kenilworth then eased off the gas in the second half, perhaps overcomplicating things a little when the simpler ball would have been a better option, allowing the opposition to go over for 2 converted tries.
However, this is a fantastic result, especially compared to the reverse fixture earlier in the season when we were somewhat "humbled" by 20-50, and is a true TEAM PERFORMANCE and result that can give the 3rds a well-founded belief and confidence to make further progress throughout the remainder of the season.
Final score: Leamington 3XV 14 – Kenilworth 3XV 22
