The front row comprising of Medium Dave, Dikkie and Simon Baldon were as solid as always. Following a summer fitness regime Simon was awarded ‘Man-of-the-match!’ Well done Simon.
Tedward played his normal dogged game, 80 mins worth, he did look a little bushed at the end but played well with Bruce in the second-row who like many of us commented ‘I can’t recall the last time I played in August?’
Charlie Buckle started well at 7 charging all around the park, sadly to go off injured after about 10 mins. Rich Allen came onto replace him, burrowing in the bottom of rucks playing his usual 100% commitment game. Martin Howle was awarded ‘Best Tackler’ of the match. Great pack leadership as always from Matt Jenkins, Lloyd also appeared in the back row and made some spirited runs. I came on at half-time for Bruce. It was a very enjoyable forward encounter.Glyn master-minded the backs, Gary Stephens and Willo swapped the 9 position every 20 mins. Willo’s boy was awarded the ferret. He volunteered to operate the score board under the initial supervision of Willo himself. At the end of the match we thought we had lost and they thought they had one due to the displayed points.
Needless to say a high state of confusion, not difficult for the 3XV nevertheless! Rick took over the Clip-board when I went on in the second half who confirmed the score at 53 to 50 to Kenilworth.
In the history of the ferret this is the first time it has been awarded to the son of the a player!
The Turner boys played well on both wings, Adam bagged 3 tries, it was good to see Mark back after injury looking confident with some great runs. Full-back was either Yanny or Sebs they both scored good tries. Peter Roberts was in command in the Centre with 3 tries and 2 conversions accompanied by Ed Newey, who last played last November and Mark Johnson on a cameo appearance.
