The club is pleased to confirm that Coventry University Rugby Club have decided to use Kenilworth Rugby Club as their home ground for next season with their 1st and 2nd teams playing all of their home games at Glasshouse Lane. Coventry’s season starts on 9th October with their first league fixture against Harper Adams University and it is a great opportunity for members to get a mid week (Wednesday) ‘fix’ of Rugby and support our local university.
The move to Kenilworth was facilitated by 1st XV squad member Alex Selby who is just about to start his second year at Coventry and who is President of the University rugby team. Ian Harrison has kindly agreed to manage the fixtures on the day to ensure every thing runs smoothly.
The link with Coventry University is seen as a major coup for the club with not only good quality competitive rugby being played during the week but hopefully the prospect of boosting player resources to enable us to fulfil as many fixtures as is possible each weekend.
Coventry University Rugby Club main sponsor for the season will be R L Walsh and Sons – a local and long established engineering firm in Coventry.
Richard Gibson has also forged firm links with Warwick University Medics for the forthcoming season with many of their players already attending training. The combined Coventry and Warwick university links, it is hoped, should see Kenilworth Rugby Club start the season in excellent shape – Bring it on!
