The Festival weekend kicked off in superb fashion with the Juniors (U13's to U16's) playing a 10's format on Saturday. We had over 300 juniors taking part with our regular teams and visitors from Blackburn and Ilkeston making their first visit at the Festival. There was a great atmosphere and fantastic rugby was played by all. To top it all the Under 13's and Under15's won their age groups.
Sunday's event was on a much bigger scale with 850 children playing in the Mini age groups (U7's to U12's). Like the previous day there was plenty superb rugby on offer in the spring sunshine.
The Mayor, George Illingworth and our Main club Chairman, Peter Blakeman were on hand to present the trophies and medals. Brilliant performances by everyone with a fun, friendly feel to the day. Especially well done to the Under 10's who topped their age group.
The Festival was supported by the Kenilworth Round Table who sponsored our main marquee after our previous one was destroyed in the horrendous weather the last year. We are also grateful to the Kenilworth Lions who sponsored our 2 gazebos.
Alongside the rugby there was plenty of good food with the Cafe and BBQ, plus beer, ice-creams, music and photographers from Andy Wood were on hand to capture all the action. A big thanks to Abbey Radio for being there on Sunday and adding to the atmosphere. On Saturday you could have had your tackling skills filmed in super high definition for immediate analysis in slow motion. And on Sunday Leicester Tigers came with their maul truck.
I would like to thank everyone who came along and took part in the weekend. An extra special thank you must go the coaches and volunteers who are an integral part of the Festival's success. Without you, we couldn't do this. As a way of thanking those who helped we will be holding a Big Thanks Do at the club on Friday 17th May - keep the date free in your diary, more details to follow.
