Kenilworth Rugby & Blade Boots
Blade Style Boots
As you may know we had a serious gash injury to one of our U13s a few weeks ago whilst training and we believe this may have been caused by a ‘blade’ style boot, although the evidence is not clear.
After much discussion between the coaches we believe that a blanket ban on ‘blades’ would be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce as they are deemed legal by the RFU & IRB and particularly in the context of fixture against other clubs. Also if we did have a blanket ban it may effectively make the coaches legally liable for enforcing this ban which may place an unfair burden on them .
We have therefore decided to implement a policy of strongly discouraging the M&Js from using ‘blades’ and that we recommend all children use traditional “kite marked” aluminium rugby studs (not football studs). In addition we have to remind all parents that it is their responsibility to ensure their children’s boots are safe and comply with the RFU rules and as per the recent email which has been sent.
