Kenilworth Colts returned to form in fine style to beat St Andrews at Hillmorton and claim their first win of the season with just 14 players.
Half term had the usual effect on squad availability and combined with a long list of injuries the Colts mustered 14 for the away fixture, including the well-rested winger Michael Tomlinson.
Rob Poulter's try in the first three minutes put Kenilworth Colts into the lead before St Andrews responded after half an hour, levelling things at 5 - 5. The mighty Spoons took the ball to within a metre of the line, with Finn securing the score, extended the visitors' lead at the break to 10 - 5.
Kenilworth's game went from strength-to-strength in the second half compensating for the missing player with heroic commitment from all. In the scrum they were dominant and after some first-half wobbles, the lineout started to work for them too. Their early reward came from an impressive scrum and a blind-side run from Sam Morris that secured a 15 - 5 lead, after 12 minutes. Good pressure from St Andrews deep in the Kenilworth half forced a Kenilworth handling error and within three minutes the home side were celebrating a conversion and a mere 3 point gap at 15 - 12.
Undaunted, Kenilworth replied almost immediately when Sam Morris spotted a gap and 'gassed-it' for three-quarters of the pitch to score a converted try, securing a 22 -12 lead.
Kenilworth were now firing on all cylinders and the next 25 minutes witnessed scores from Spoons from a lineout, a superb play with Rob Poulter's run, Ben McLaughlin's carry and Henry Maggs final push, and finally a further Spoons try on the final whistle sealing an impressive 39 - 12 away win.
A remarkable display of commitment from the Colts and a great result with 14 players, including first timers Hugo and Joe. Proud coaches and parents celebrated afterwards in a very welcoming St Andrews clubhouse, with Sam Richardson named as K's man of the match.
