Kenilworth Colts vs Broadstreet Colts
Saturday 6 January 2018
2:15pm kick off
Kenilworth Colts suffer a 24-29 loss to Broadstreet at the Cow Patch.
A cold breeze swept along the pitch as Kenilworth kicked off. The first 15 minutes of play were all in Broadstreet’s half and Kenilworth’s scrum was stronger.
A well taken lineout though was all Broadstreet required to secure an opening try, duly converted. (0 – 7)
Kenilworth took stock, reset and came back in style, scoring five minutes later after a strong run from winger Sam Morris. Converted by Joe Stikly (7 – 7). Just two minutes later - following some really quick hands out to the wing - Sam Morris secured his second try for Kenilworth, again converted again by Joe Stickly. (14 – 7).
Both sides were attacking and defending hard with several score chances. The final score of the first half came from Broadstreet to close the half at (14 – 12).
Broadstreet kicked off for the second half into the low winter sun but with the wind behind them. Kenilworth’s pressure was rewarded within ten minutes as No.10 Joe Stikley scored but missed the conversion. (19 – 12). Five minutes later Broadstreet kicked a penalty to narrow the gap at (19 – 15). Then Kenilworth’s continued attacks resulted in a try from Ryka Sekhavati. (24 – 15).
Kenilworth’s nine-point lead looked safe with around five minutes left on the clock but, somehow, Broadstreet scored twice and converted both leaving Kenilworth Colts with a (25 – 29) loss.
A frustrating end to 2018’s opener but much to be pleased about in the Colts’ performance through the majority of the game.
