Kenilworth Colts secure a 24-10 victory over Barkers Butts in a superb performance under the lights at Glasshouse Lane.
The strong wind, announcing the imminent arrival of storm Caroline, whipped across the pitch as Barkers kicked off. Kenilworth didn’t secure the ball and within the opening minute Barkers had five points on the board from a well worked try.
Kenilworth took stock, reset and came back in full force, nearly scoring five minutes later. Kenilworth’s scrum was superior and having shoved Barkers off the ball, a well-weighted kick found the hands of Sam Morris who ran it in safely leaving the scores level.
Both sides were putting their hearts and souls into the game with Kenilworth winning in most of the contact areas. Kenilworth’s confidence was showing now and they were stringing phases together. Their second try came from a thrilling Ben Hindson run, successfully converted by Will Morgan. 12 - 5.
Kenilworth kept pushing and shortly before half-time they were rewarded again with a great try from Ben Brown. The wind scuppered Will’s conversion kick though. Half-time score 17 – 5.
Kenilworth looked to be in control through most of the second half and managed a further converted try through the hands of Henry Maggs and Will Morgan’s boot. To their credit, Barkers kept up their attacking game and scored a good try in the far corner, bringing the final score to 24 – 10.
Despite the cold, wet and windy conditions, this was a performance to give Kenilworth Colts players, coaches and supporters a warm feeling in their final fixture of 2017.
